How can we shift from unhappiness to happiness? That is the real question. The only time that we need help or advice or principles of happiness is when we are unhappy. The value of the seven principles of happiness—and especially the first principle, the principle of one power—is that they enable you to shift back to happiness. Moreover, when you actively live these principles in your everyday life, you find that you are unhappy less and less, and so have less and less need to shift back into happiness.
We’ve discussed the principle of one power—the very foundation of the seven principles of The Happy Mind—in great detail in earlier posts. And we’ve also discussed the other possible belief choice, which I called the belief in two powers (i.e., the belief that there is more than just one power). The belief in two powers is simply the belief that there is some real power or causal force in reality besides love.
