Studying philosophy …
I have been studying Eastern and Western philosophy and religion for over 40 years. I graduated with a degree in psychology and a heavy emphasis on science, and I began medical school. But then I discovered philosophy, and I fell in love with it. Subsequently, I took a leave of absence from medical school and began graduate work in philosophy. Eventually I received my doctorate in philosophy. My dissertation was on the universal themes in mysticism, and I was very fortunate to have Dr. Huston Smith as my outside reader. I taught philosophy classes for 10 years, including at the University of Buffalo, at Vassar College, and at Furman University.
… and hands-on practice
At that point, I decided that I wanted some way to study and live philosophy in a more hands-on practical way. My wife and I decided to go to chiropractic college. We were attracted by the philosophy of chiropractic, and by the prospect of helping others to heal their lives. For the last 20 years, we have practiced in our clinic in upstate New York, mainly using the approach of Network Chiropractic, developed by Dr. Donald Epstein.
Thanks to many wonderful teachers
My active study of philosophy, however, has continued through the years. It has included extensive reading, meditation and other practices. I have been a student of A Course in Miracles for over 25 years. I have also studied with the Option Institute, and with such teachers as , Thich Nhat Hanh, Michael Harner, Gail Straub and David Gershon, Jerry and Esther Hicks and Abraham, Pat Rodegast and Emmanual, Wallace Black Elk, Brant Secunda, and don Miguel and don Jose Ruiz.
And to a wonderful family
As far as a practical way to learn about and understand life and forgiveness and joy and unconditional love, nothing has taught me more me than my day-to-day life with my wife, Mary and our three (now grown) children. Over the last several years, we’ve welcomed seven fantastic grandchildren who are marvelous teachers in their own right (and a boatload of fun). [No photos here yet of Kirin or Sully or Irissa. I'm a bit behind. Apologies all around.] And then there’s all the rest of our huge extended family!
Workshops, books, CD’s and more
For the past 20 years, my wife and I have given presentations and taught workshops in both the private and the corporate sectors on the topics of health and healing, human potential, self-actualization, and spirituality. We are available for speaking engagements and workshops. To receive more information on this, contact me at email@example.com.
As I mentioned above, I have been a student of A Course in Miracles for over 25 years and I taught classes on it for several years. These classes were recorded, and the CD’s will be available soon on this website soon. But it’s taking a while to set-up the whole e-commerce thing. So if you are interested in these CD’s and can’t find them here, e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In addition to my dissertation, I have so far written 3 books. For more information, click on the title below.
- Lighted Clearings for the Soul: Reclaiming the Joy of Your Life (2004)
- The Happy Mind: Seven Principles to Clear Your Head and Lift Your Heart (available August 2010)
- Lighted Clearings of Possibility (provisional title) (available 2014)
